Why I'm Running
Meet Allen
I am running for the Boone County Auditor because I have been looking for a way to get involved in government and serve my community.
I’m Allen Bel-Long. I grew up in the small town of Kearney, MO which is a little suburb of Kansas City. While there I earned the rank of Eagle Scout through my Boy Scout troop 397. I graduated at the top of my class from Kearney Senior High School in 2003. I then went straight to college in Maryville, MO at Northwest Missouri State University to get my degree in Management Information Systems. I graduated in 2007 with my Bachelor’s of Science and went right to work as a Programmer.
I started out doing policy administration, but found my true passion with the payments and balancing of the policies. I moved into the payment services department handling payment transactions, cash runs, general ledgers, reporting, balancing, etc. I quickly became the system matter expert (SME) of the balancing and developed a new process of managing payments and ledgers, which I also trained others on. After 10 years, I started doing some contract work in the financial software space. It worked for myself and my family for about 7 years, and I decided I wanted to get back into full-time employment. I then started at the County in 2024 maintaining and developing for the payroll and accounting system. I was able to stabilize the current payroll system allowing for a more smooth transition to the ERP system.
I am now running for the Boone County Auditor because managing money and budgets is my true passion. While working at the County, I have met and worked with several of the elected officials, building great working relationships and trust. I have wanted to get involved in politics in a way that would be impactful for my community, and this opportunity lined up exactly when it needed to. I believe that my career has developed my skills and prepared me for this role that has literally fallen right in place as if it was meant to be. I have enjoyed this experience of meeting all the wonderful people and I look forward to serving the citizens of Boone County.
